Rumours have been swirling about a new record from UK trio the xx, with the band recently dropping mysterious sound snippets online and song-indentifying service Shazam leaking a possible tracklisting for an album titled I See You. Well, it turns out that's exactly what the band's next album will be called, and it's due out on January 13 via Young Turks.
The new record hears the band branching out and taking a wider-ranging approach to making music, with members Romy Madly Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie Smith opting to record between the lengthy span of March 2014 and August 2016 across New York, Marfa, Reykjavik, Los Angeles and London. It was produced by Smith alongside Rodaidh McDonald.
The previously teased list of titles was mostly on point with the song names, despite getting the order and number of tracks wrong. I See You actually checks in at 10 songs and you can see them properly titled and ordered down below. The blurry, distorted album artwork is pictured above.
The album will arrive digitally, on CD and in three different LP incarnations — standard vinyl, clear vinyl (only available at independent record stores) and a deluxe box set that includes the record on 180-gram heavyweight vinyl, a 12-inch with three bonus tracks, a CD, an enhanced CD featuring a live video of bonus track "Brave For You (Marfa Demo)" and three exclusive prints by Alasdair McLellan.
The band has also shared the first full-track offering from the album, with "On Hold" hitting digital platforms today (November 10). You can find an array of streaming options here, or listen to it in the player below.
UPDATE (11/10, 12:30 p.m. EST): The xx have now announced they will be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live on November 19, when Kristen Wiig will host.
