We knew the Tragically Hip's most recent "Man Machine Poem Tour" was huge, propelling all of the band's albums back on to Canadian charts and raising more than $1 million for cancer research. But now, new numbers are showing just how much the tour made — in comparison to some of the world's biggest pop stars.

According to tracking agency Pollstar [via CBC], the Hip's latest run of shows landed them in seventh place on its list of top grossing global concerts. On average, the band brought in $1.85 million US per show. That's good for about $2.4 million on home turf, in case you were wondering.

The impressive showing bumped the group's average tour earnings above those by billboard names like Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Rod Stewart, who each rolled through Canada on tours of their own recently.

Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé and Paul McCartney filled in the top spots on the list.

As previously reported, the Tragically Hip's final show on the "Man Machine Poem Tour" was broadcast nationally on CBC; 11 million Canadian tuned in to watch the event. You can revisit a rundown of some less money-minded stats from the tour over here.

Frontman Gord Downie was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer earlier this year, but has already revealed plans in the follow-up to the lucrative Hip shows. He'll release a solo album called Secret Path on October 18, and recently announced a pair of special live shows in support of the new record.
