Machu Picchu 2: Electric Boogaloo? The Strokes have apparently been recording their new album at the top of a mountain, according to producer Rick Rubin

Speaking on an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast that went live yesterday (October 12), Rubin revealed that he was recently with the Strokes in Costa Rica to record their seventh album.

"A few months ago, I was in Costa Rica recording a new album with the Strokes," Rubin explained. "We rented this house on the top of a mountain and set the band up outside. So it's like, they're doing a concert for the ocean on the top of a mountain. And we did that every day — it was incredible. They didn't want to leave, it was like the best experience."

The new album — which has yet to be formally announced — will follow 2020's The New Abnormal, which was also produced by Rubin. Seeing as this is their second album together, the Strokes probably don't see Rubin as a "hinderance" like Josh Klinghoffer.
