Incendiary as ever, a historic photo of the Replacements was recently removed from the University of Minnesota over a ciggie — and now, their 1985 major label debut, Tim, is getting the expanded reissue treatment.
The 4CD/1LP box set, Tim: Let It Bleed Edition, is due September 22 via Rhino. It follows the 2021 deluxe 40th anniversary edition of Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash and 2020's Pleased to Meet Me box set.
In addition to a new mix by Ed Stasium, who was originally in the running to co-produce the record with Tommy Erdelyi, Tim: Let It Bleed Edition includes a bunch of previously unreleased material: alternate versions, demos, live recordings, etc., some having been derived from a recording session with Big Star's Alex Chilton that took place in January of 1985.
"I really loved working on this project," Stasium said in a statement. "It's a great record, and now you can hear even better what's great about it. But the best thing for me was that, in a funny and really beautiful way, I got to work with my dear friend Tommy Erdelyi once again."
There's also a full-length live album recording of a show the Replacements did at Chicago's Cabaret Metro in 1986, a hardcover book featuring previously unseen photos and a history of the album written by Trouble Boys: The True Story of the Replacements author Bob Mehr.
