Though it's a massive marketing opportunity for corporations, Canada 150 is a contentious and tone deaf celebration to Indigenous communities. To continue the important conversations that need to be had this weekend, Iqaluit group the Jerry Cans have shared a cover of the Tragically Hip's "Ahead by a Century" in the Inuit dialect of Inuttitut.

According to a press release, the cover is intended to "become a dialogue between North and South, between this country's troubled history and possible future."

In a joint statement, the group's Nancy Mike and Andrew Morrison added that they were spurred on by Gord Downie's statements at the final Tragically Hip show. "With all that is going on in Canada, we see our version of 'Ahead by a Century' as the north responding to some of what Gord said in his final concert," they said.

The cover will be officially released tomorrow (June 30), though it can already be streamed below [via A.Side]. You'll also find all of the band's upcoming tour dates below.
