Igloolik, NU-based artist Terry Uyarak returns today with news of his sophomore album, previewed by new single "Qaigi."

Translating to "night" in English, Unnuaq arrives June 21 via Aakuluk Music. It follows Uyarak's 2020 debut Nunarjua Isulinginniani, as well as last year's ATIILU! EP.

The artist describes the album as one of "healing songs," connecting who he is in the present — a father, a husband, a musician — to his younger self. That was when he first heard the folk songs of his ancestors, prohibited by the church, and experienced their undeniable power as they began to re-emerge. Unnuaq serves as both a representation of Uyarak's Inuit heritage, as well as his providing his perspective on Indigeneity in the 21st century.

Of atmospheric lead single "Qaigi," the singer-songwriter added, "It gave me more meaning to my current group of friends, all around me, to always welcoming me in their hearts as I do them. 'Come, let me show what you are capable of, I like you, I love you, for who you are.' I have always belonged to many foundations growing, and mainly of family and friends feeding me a beautiful life."
