A brief pre-show intro from TSN personality Dave Hodge only solidified what many already knew about hometown songwriter Terra Lightfoot — she has become a bright star in Hamilton music lore and the Canadian folk scene through what Hodge identified as "hard work and a whole lot of talent." These traits were hard to miss as Lightfoot and her skilled backing band took the main stage as a headlining act Friday evening, a far cry from afternoon timeslot she played one year ago on a stage tucked further up the street.

Drawing heavily from her acclaimed Every Time My Mind Runs Wild, Lightfoot's soulful vocals and gritty, blues-rooted guitar were the driving force behind incredibly tight performances of "All Alone," "Never Will" and "No Hurry." Minor technical issues brought on by the rain were forgotten, as her worn Gibson SG provided the perfect backdrop for drummer Joel Haynes to unleash some decidedly more rocking fills. Playing to a larger, more receptive crowd, it was tough to find one person who wasn't singing along to some of the better-known cuts. One year can make quite a difference.
