Teen Metal Band Unlocking the Truth Struggle with the Music Biz in the Trailer for 'Breaking a Monster'

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jun 3, 2016

It's been a long, uphill battle for teen metal act Unlocking the Truth, who signed a five-album, $1.8 million contract with Sony in 2014 before breaking free from the majors. They'll finally deliver their long-awaited debut album later this month, and now we get a taste of its accompanying documentary Breaking a Monster.

Directed by Luke Meyer, we gave them film a nine out of 10 when it played at Hot Docs last year. In our review, we praised Meyer for the way he "shows how dishearteningly restrictive working in the music industry can be."

Now the rest of us can share in the band's frustration as they sit through boring meetings and beg their manager to let them record music with the film's trailer. You can stream the trailer in full below, and look for Breaking a Monster to receive a wide release on June 24.

As previously mentioned, Unleashing the Truth will, well, unleash their debut album Chaos on June 17 through Tunecore. The album was produced by Johnny K (Megadeth, Pop Evil, Disturbed).
