With Grade having opened the doors for melodic emo-chug bands at the offices of Victory Records, there seems to be no shortage of similar bands joining the label. Joining a roster that already includes Waterdown and Thursday is Amityville's Taking Back Sunday, who combine the tormented "whoa hoah" vocal styles of Saves the Day and the post-punk screamo groove of the mighty Grade. Formed by founding Movielife guitarist Ed Reyes just two short years ago, TBS's debut full-length is a spirited and well-produced effort, unfortunately it comes at a time when there's a flood of similar sounding bands. It's not bad, but it just doesn't stand out either.
