After revealing last July that they were at work in the studio with Steve AlbiniSunn O))) have revealed the details behind their first album in four years. Titled Life Metal, the four-track effort will arrive in April through Southern Lord.

The band worked with the legendary sound whiz to record the effort using an all-analogue process, with the LP version in particular "recorded and mixed on tape via a completely analogue production, from the input of the band's amplifiers and the air coming off the speakers in front of the microphones to needle touching the pressed vinyl on your turntable."

Joining Sunn O))) co-founders Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson on the album are composer and occasional live collaborator Hildur Guðnadóttir, Silkworm's Tim Midyett and composer Anthony Pateras. The album's artwork, seen above, comes courtesy of visual artist Samantha Keely Smith.

A press release also reveals that the band's sessions with Albini produced a second album of material titled Pyroclasts. Said to be a "more meditative" listen, that album will be announced this autumn.

Sunn O))) have also mapped out tour dates for March, April, September and October in Europe, the U.K. and the United States. You can find those here.
