A Student Who Created a GWAR Costume from Scratch Ends Up Only Getting a D in Art

A Student Who Created a GWAR Costume from Scratch Ends Up Only Getting a D in Art
A London-based design student showed up to get their A-level results dressed in a meticulously designed costume based on GWAR's late frontman Oderus Urungus — only to find out they got a D in art.

While 18-year-old heavy music fan Lani Hernandez-David demonstrated serious skills in costume design, apparently the student's dedication to the Richmond, VA-based shock-rock outfit wasn't enough to score them an A.

"I dressed in my homemade Oderus Urungus to pick up my A-level school results," Hernandez-David wrote in an Instagram post. "I got a B in design technology and a D in art... oh well. All I'd like to say is that you don't need the highest grades and you don't need to go to Hollywood to be able to create cool shit. Anyways, this has been a fun project."

The mask-maker's Dave Brockie tribute may not have impressed teachers, but thankfully GWAR have taken notice — and gave their full support for the work.

"Imagine going to pick up your grades in a homemade Oderus [costume] and getting a D for art. School sucks, @_lani_mask_ rules," the band wrote in a post.

In addition to the Oderus costume, Hernandez-David has also tried their hand at numerous Slipknot and Corey Taylor-inspired ensembles. You can check those out over at their Instagram profile.

Hernandez-David's tribute to Brockie arrives following the launch of a Change.org petition in support of erecting a monument in place of a Robert E. Lee statue in Richmond. The Ottawa-born artist passed away back in 2014.

All I'd like to say is that you don't need the highest grades and you don't need to go to Hollywood to be able to create cool shit. Anyways, this has been a fun project. Let's try see if we can get an article made about this! Thanks for all the lovely support. Not for sale, will not make any for sale.
