Stefan Goldmann & Finn Johannsen

Macrospective

BY Andrea AyottePublished Nov 17, 2016

Berlin-based Macro label founders Stefan Goldmann and Finn Johannsen release their first compilation, Macrospective. Created using vinyl only, Goldman and Johannsen demonstrate the art of DJing by mixing the same selection of tracks in their unique styles while providing a retrospective taste of the label's back catalogue with tracks from Raudive, Elektro Guzzi, Peter Kruder and many more. DJing since the '80s, Finn Johannsen's mix was produced and recorded in one take, offering a harder, more driven techno journey of builds and peaks, equalling a continuous, lucid mix. On the second CD, Goldman takes a more planned artistic approach, starting off with a bleed from his "Massenbach" then seamlessly evolving into Namlook's funky acid-synth "Subharmonic Atoms." From mesmerizing, minimal spiritual tracks to deep, tribal percussive phrasing, Stefan Goldmann and Finn Johannsen highlight their innovative, experimental catalogue while also demonstrating artful interruptions and approaches to DJing.
