Spiritualized Promise New Album Next Year

Spiritualized Promise New Album Next Year
Space rockers Spiritualized last delivered a full-length in 2012 with Sweet Heart Sweet Light, but the British band have been hinting at the follow-up since last year. Now, project mastermind Jason Pierce has revealed that the next record is due out in 2017.

To mark the 20th anniversary of Spiritualized's 1997 classic Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space, the group announced that they will be performing a one-off show celebrating that album, accompanied by a 15-piece orchestra and a gospel choir. That will take place at the Barbican in London on November 7, but even fans who can't make the trip are in luck.

Pierce also revealed that the latest Spiritualized album will be landing "20 years to the day since Ladies and Gentlemen" — lining it up for a June 16 release date.

A Facebook post from Pierce reads:

So as they don't compete, we decided to run an anniversary show this year and leave some clear space for the new album. I just didn't wanna pass on the opportunity to perform 'Ladies and gentlemen...' live again.

It's such a massive and detailed piece of music to play and is still as demanding and relevant to me as it was on its release. In one 70 minute blast it just about covers everything I still find interesting and engaging in music... from free jazz, doo-wop, and soul to rock & roll, gospel, and the blues... All with heavy guns and the Barbican's wide screen stage as the backdrop… It's a real honour to be asked to play it there again.

In terms of what listeners can expect from the upcoming album, as previously reported, the band enlisted Killing Joke bassist Martin "Youth" Glover to produce. Recording sessions took place in London at Glover's studios, though additional album work was expected to be completed in Spain.

The as-yet-untitled new album will mark first full-length since 2012's Sweet Heart Sweet Light.
