Spencer Krug Announces New Album 'I Just Drew This Knife'

Hear lead single "Cry All Day"

Prolific singer-songwriter Spencer Krug — the cute dog-haver of Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown, Moonface, Swan Lake, etc. fame — has announced a new album to be released under his actual name, led by the single "Cry All Day."

I Just Drew This Knife is due October 13 on Krug's own Pronounced Kroog label. All of this taken together, you may expect it to be a lot less collaborative than it actually is: according to the artist, co-conspirators Jordan Koop and Eli Browning not only played on the album, but all the songs were written, arranged and produced in a group effort by the three of them.

Essentially, Krug twisted Browning's instrumental pandemic recordings into new forms, and Koop added lead guitar — and just like that, an album was born. Opener "Cry All Day" is out today, offering our anguished first taste of the collection. Krug's unmistakable vocal sinks into the dense mattress of the groove, opening with the chilling recurring line, "I'm gonna get back into sculpture / I'm gonna start by splitting this rock in two."

Krug, Koop and Browning have announced a show at Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern on October 30. Tickets go on sale this Friday (August 11) at 10 a.m. ET.
