The Specials Hint at New Studio Album

Published Mar 30, 2010

As if announcing their first North American tour in 30 years wasn't exciting enough, ska legends the Specials are now claiming that they plan to record an "incredibly great" studio full-length following those dates.

Lead singer Terry Hall recently told Spinner, "We've all agreed that if we're going to make an album, it's got to be an incredibly great album. If we're up for that, and we think that we have the parts in place, there's no reason we won't start recording. I think at this level [we need] to play for a while, like we did before we had a record deal."

A studio LP now would be the first semi-proper Specials album since their sophomore album More Specials in 1980. Their '90s comeback material was missing both Hall and founder/principal songwriter Jerry Dammers. But seeing how the latter is refusing to take part in the 2010 tour, calling it "a takeover, rather than a proper reunion," it would be hard to call a new record without Dammers a true Specials album.

Those tour dates again:

4/15 Los Angeles, CA - Nokia Theatre
4/16 Indio, CA - Coachella
4/19 Toronto, ON - Sound Academy
4/21 New York, NY - Terminal 5
