Sparrows Announce Debut Album

BY Gregory AdamsPublished May 17, 2013

It's been a while since Sparrows kicked off their post-hardcore recording career with their 2011 EP Goliath, but the Ottawa outfit have now come through with their first full-length. Titled Cold Ground, it arrives July 30 through Broken Heart /Kat Kat Records.

A press release explains that the band recorded the eight-song effort with Jay Maas (Defeater, Polar Bear Club, Title Fight) at Getaway Studios in Wakefield, MA. This latest song cycle apparently mines similar territory as Goliath and is described as a "pummelling and powerful" record that pulls influence from Moneen, Hot Water Music and Thrice.

"Cold Ground was a long time coming for us," guitarist/vocalist Dan Thomson said in a statement. "We spent a good amount of time on the road over the last year and a half, and that really coloured the way we approached writing this record. It was really important to try and capture the intensity of a live show in Cold Ground in each song. Of course, having Jay Maas in your corner is definitely going to help that."

You can sample the melodic crunch of Cold Ground's opening number "Coffin Fever" now over at Alternative Press, and take a peek at the tracklisting and some upcoming tour dates down below.
