Following summer reports that Sparks were in the studio working on a new album, it's now been revealed that the duo of Ron and Russell Mael are developing a new musical film.

As Deadline reports, the brothers Mael have teamed with Focus Features to develop a new project titled X-Crucior, which the site calls "an original musical epic."

Focus Features distributed 2021's Edgar Wright-directed band doc The Sparks Brothers. At present, there are few other details available surrounding X Crucior, which will be written and executive produced by the Maels.

Deadline adds that Focus' Kiska Higgs will oversee production for the studio. A director has yet to be revealed.

Sparks' forthcoming 26th studio LP will follow their 2020 album A Steady Drip, Drip Drip, and their 2021 score for Leos Carax's film Annette.

The latter work won the brothers a Cannes Soundtrack Award for Best Composer, and a César Award for Best Original Music.
