Soul Side

Soul Side

Originally released on Sammich Records, a label co-founded by Ian MacKaye’s younger sister, Amanda, Soul Side’s debut full-length has, unfortunately, evaded the radar of many music fans since its initial release in 1987. Now, Dischord has seen fit to re-release the record, making it available for the first time on CD. Soul Side’s debut included some fine, tuneful hardcore, occasionally reminiscent of DC’s incendiary Government Issue and it certainly deserves to benefit from a reintroduction to listeners. After the dissolution of Soul Side, band members moved to NYC, notably forming the floor-rumbling Girls Against Boys. Soul Side’s reissued debut is a solid snapshot of late ’80s DC hardcore, its songs holding up very well to the present day.
