"Somebody Close" to Britney Spears Prompted Welfare Check from Police After Viral Knife-Dancing Video

After the police stopped by Britney Spears's mansion in the L.A. suburb Thousand Oaks following her viral post dancing recklessly with knives in hand earlier this week, the singer took to Instagram multiple times to assure her fans that she was fine.

"Lighten up about the knives, I'm copying Shakira," she captioned the first response video.

"I know I spooked everyone with the last post, but these are fake knives that my team rented," she wrote under another video dancing with the blades, this time with a bandage on her arm. "No one needs to worry or call the police."

However, Captain Dean Worthy of the Ventura County Sheriff's Office has since revealed to Page Six that they sent units to her house to conduct the welfare check only after confirming that the caller was someone who actually had a relationship with the singer, and wasn't just a speculating fan.

"Somebody close to Britney had seen the video posted on social media, where she's dancing and twirling with knives in her hands, and they were really concerned for her mental well-being," Worthy said.

"We would normally not respond to fans calling in about a celebrity unless we actually believed that there is a credible threat," he continued. "However, we vetted this individual through LAPD … and we determined this is someone who knows Britney on a personal basis."

He also confirmed that Spears's security team didn't want the officers to see the singer, instead telling them over the intercom that she was fine.

Fan concern partially stems from the TMZ reports that people close to Spears during her conservatorship recommended knives be kept away from her
