Smith Westerns Offshoot Whitney Announce Debut Album

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Mar 23, 2016

Since the demise of Smith Westerns at the end of 2014, guitarist Max Kakacek has been focusing on a new project called Whitney. After unveiling their "No Woman" single earlier in the year, the band have now detailed their debut album. Titled Light Upon the Lake, the record arrives June 3 through Secretly Canadian.

The core of Whitney comprises Kakacek and former Unknown Mortal Orchestra member Julien Ehrlich. The Windy City pair evolved from roommates to songwriting partners, crafting their 10-song introduction during a series of early-morning sessions. Thematically, the set is said to be about "the breakups they were enduring and the breakdowns they were trying to avoid."

To help support the album, they've unveiled a new song from the collection, "Golden Days." You'll find the breezy, brass-dusted rock track's music video below, along with the previously released clip for "No Woman."

While the record release is a few months off, Whitney hit the road to support the LP in April. Below, you'll find info on their North American trek, which finds them sharing stages with Wild Nothing and Ehrlich's former band, Unknown Mortal Orchestra.
