Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder has announced he is leaving the band after just over 15 years with the band onstage and in-studio.

"Although it was a very difficult decision to make, I've decided to leave the band to make some space to explore a slightly different path," Schroeder (pictured far right, above) explained in part in a statement shared today via the Pumpkins' social media channels. "I wish the band all the success in the future. I will be watching and listening."

"We thank Jeff for his ceaseless dedication to the band and our great fans," Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin and James Iha said in a respective statement. "Words can not express our gratitude and appreciation for the friend he is, and being there for SP in the good times and the tough times, too."

Schroeder was the second-longest-serving member of Smashing Pumpkins behind vocalist-guitarist Corgan. After joining the band's touring lineup in 2007, performing behind that year's comeback album Zeitgeist, Schroeder became a full-time member of Smashing Pumpkins.

His playing can be heard on 2012 album Oceania, 2014's Monuments to an Elegy, 2018's Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun., 2020's Cyr, and this year's three-part ATUM.
