Slowdive Detail New Album 'everything is alive,' Map Out North American Tour

The new single "kisses" has arrived

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jun 20, 2023

Last week, first-wave shoegazers Slowdive teased the follow-up to their excellent self-titled 2017 album, and now they've officially announced it. "kisses" is the lead single from everything is alive, due out September 1 via Dead Oceans, and the band will support it with a tour that includes a stop in Toronto.

The album was recorded across various studios throughout England over the course of a couple years, extending from fall 2020 into early 2022. The band's singer-guitarist Neil Halstead served as producer, while Shawn Everett (Alvvays, the War on Drugs, SZA) mixed six of the eight tracks.

The album is dedicated to the mother of singer-guitarist Rachel Goswell and the father of drummer Simon Scott, both of whom died in 2020. Halstead said in a statement, "It wouldn't feel right to make a really dark record right now. The album is quite eclectic emotionally, but it does feel hopeful."

That's certainly true of the pop-friendly "kisses," with its relatively upbeat groove — at least by Slowdive standards. Watch a video for the song below. everything is alive is available to pre-order here.
