We Got a Love

There's no doubt that Shit Robot (a.k.a Marcus Lambkin) belongs on DFA Records. From his unbridled sense of adventure to his knowledge of vintage electronic music, and even his age (43), Lambkin seems more in line with the James Murphys of the world than the James Blakes. On We Got Love, his sophomore LP, the Irish knobturner has managed to produce a coherent album brimming with ideas, styles and guest musicians.

Working off of thin '80s drum machine beats, disco keyboard chords and Juno swooshes, We Got Love keeps the energy high and tight. Giving his guest vocalists much scenery to chew, tracks like "Do That Dance" (featuring former LCD Soundsystem-er Nancy Wang) and "Do it Right"(with vintage Chicago house hero Lidell Townsell) capture each artist's musical aura, but it's the wonderful Crystal Waters vibe of the Holly Backler-sung "Feels Like" and the two tracks featuring comedian/musician Reggie Watts that show just how much love, authenticity and humour Shit Robot possesses.
