Secret Machines

Now Here is Nowhere

The musical landscapes of Texas’s the Secret Machines are coloured with bright odd pop flavours and kinky guitar bits. There’s an odd Beck-like charm to their sound, mixing techno-noise with solid rock guitar. Their songs, however, are lengthier than your typical pop song and their song structures are similar to the experimental Flaming Lips vein. The Leaves Are Gone begins with Grandaddy ambience but quickly breaks down into a pop rock number, while The Road Leads Where its Led is a consistently upbeat Brit-rock tune. The Secret Machines manage to create a balanced record that blends Pink Floyd-obscurity with modern pop sensibility. They’ve also got a killer website.
