Screeching Weasel Return with 'Carnival of Schadenfreude' EP

Things understandably ground to a halt last spring for long-running pop punks Screeching Weasel after bandleader Ben Weasel punched a woman in the face at a gig during SXSW. Following the incident, his bandmates left the group and the troupe's Weaselfest event was cancelled, but now, for better or for worse, the lead Weasel's back with a new record.

Titled Carnival of Schadenfreude -- referencing the singer's blog rant in the summer that dissed the band dudes who split -- the record's release coincides with the new lineup's upcoming gig at Chicago's Reggie's on October 29. Recess Records will issue the seven-song EP on twelve-inch vinyl the same day.

You can stream the title track now over on the group's Facebook page or down below. The song sums up Weasel's side of the story, as he refers to the violent incident as "silly" and belittles former label Fat Wreck Chords for booting him off the imprint.

"Hey, go ahead and laugh. 'Cause guess what, ya chumps? I'm back and I won't forget who sold me out," Weasel sings.

While the group certainly picked up their fair share of flack over last spring's dust-up, it seems the outfit's punk rock fanbase is fairly forgiving. The Chicago show, which teams them with New Hampshire outfit the Queers, is sold out.
