Séance

Awakening of the Gods

BY Denise FalzonPublished Mar 16, 2009

Séance have returned to the extreme metal forefront with their latest effort, Awakening of the Gods. The Swedish death metal veterans went on hiatus after the release of Saltrubbed Eyes in '93 but as one of the most brutal death metal bands that hail from the land that unleashed Entombed and Dismember, Séance are reborn with Awakening of the Gods. Although 15 years have passed it's as if they never left, as the band pick up right where they left off, composing an album of classic death metal. The incredible solos in "Wasted" and "Your Time Has Come," as well as the chugging riffs in "They" and "Prisoner 666," communicate a sense of utter technical proficiency by guitarists Rille Rimfält and Tony Kampner. Johan Larsson's vocals are also as menacing as ever, and even if you didn't know who Séance were before, Awakening of the Gods makes you grateful they're back.
