Scalpers Have Created an Entire Website Devoted to Reselling Tragically Hip Tickets

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jun 3, 2016

After the devastating news that the Tragically Hip's frontman Gord Downie has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer, the band announced plans to take their show on the road once again. Getting tickets to the upcoming gigs has proven to be an infuriating clusterfuck thanks to scalpers jacking up the prices via online resale sites — but it's not just the usual suspects who are getting in on the profit-making scheme.

An entire new website has been created for the purpose of hocking overpriced Tragically Hip concert tickets, operating under the domain of TheHipTickets.com. A look into the site's history shows that the domain name was registered on May 30, 2016, to online resale company Wild West Domains.

Tickets for the band's final hometown show in Kingston, ON, on August 20 are currently listed between $724 and $2,256 per individual seat. It's a lot of money to hand over to what seems like a pretty morally dubious scheme, but the site it offering a 200 percent money-back guarantee to anyone who buys tickets that aren't delivered or that don't arrive in time for the event.
