Sarah Harmer, Shad, the Rural Alberta Advantage Acknowledge War of 1812 with Free Toronto Concert

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 31, 2012

In our country, the War of 1812 is typically remembered as a triumphant event in which British forces successfully defended themselves against a U.S. attempt to annex Canada. So how should we celebrate this key moment in our nation's early history? With a free outdoor concert, of course.

The show will take place on July 14 at Fort York's Garrison Common in Toronto. The gig will be headlined by Sarah Harmer, with the bill rounded out by Shad, the Rural Alberta Advantage and Alex Cuba. Check out the Facebook event page to learn more.

This concert is one of many War of 1812-related events that will take place in Toronto in the coming months. The program runs from June of this year until 2013, and includes everything from storytelling and talks to a memorial church service and an air show.
