Earlier this year, Canadian prog greats Rush announced that they would be filming their Toronto shows in June. Although they didn't specify exactly what the filming was for, it didn't take a genius to figure out that they were probably planning a concert film. Sure enough, they have now announced R40 Live.
The shows were captured on June 17 and 19 at the Air Canada Centre, and the resulting film will be out on November 20. An announcement refers to R40 Live simply as a "concert film," so it's not entirely clear if it will be screening in cinemas or coming straight to DVD. The music was mixed by David Botrill.
Although Rush haven't released any footage from the film, they have shared the audio of their 1991 hit "Roll the Bones." Although we can't see it here, the rap breakdown apparently features a video with lip-sync cameos from Jay Baruchel (She's Out of My League), Les Claypool (Primus), Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), The Trailer Park Boys and Jason Segel & Paul Rudd (I Love You, Man). Hear the audio below.
The Toronto shows each featured two sets from Rush, plus an encore. Presumably, the two nights will be combined into a single concert for the purpose of the film; the two nights featured slightly different setlists, so it's not entirely clear which songs will end up in the film.
