Rich Aucoin Announces 'Season 2' of 'Synthetic' Albums Project

It's the latest in his four-part run of instrumental albums made with rare and historic synths

Rich Aucoin is continuing with his four-part Synthetic album series. Synthetic - A Synth Odyssey: Season 2 is out May 19, 2023, via We Are Busy Bodies.

The instrumental album continues the Halifax artist's exploration of rare and historic synths, as he worked at both Calgary's National Music Centre and L.A.'s Vintage Synthesizer Museum.

Notable instruments on the album include a 1939 Hammond Novachord (which was apparently the first fully polyphonic synthesizer), a EMS VCS3 Prototype (from Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon), a Vako Orchestron (similar to a Mellotron, but using floppy discs), various Moogs, and more.

The songs "Pure," "Roger Luther" and "Prophet" are streaming below. The album's tracklist is below that, and vinyl copies can be pre-ordered from Bandcamp.

Season 1 in the series arrived back in October. Aucoin is releasing the four parts at six-month intervals over the course of two years. He's also going on tour this spring.
