Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith to Face Will Ferrell in Drum Battle on 'Fallon'

Have you ever noticed that funnyman Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith look kind of alike? They are certainly aware of the similarly, since they've been planning a comedic drum battle for a while now. The date and location for the drum-off has now been set, since they will be appearing on the May 22 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

"We're going to have a drum-off to see who the real Chad Smith is," Smith told Rolling Stone. "I'm all for it. But unless Will's been practising or is secretly a crazy, wild drummer, I think it'll be evident right off the bat who the real Chad Smith is. I'm ready to take him down."

He said that Ferrell's drum skills are "terrible" and added, "I hope he's practising."

Ferrell responded, "I have not been practising. There's no amount of practice that would help me become a good drummer."

Ferrell addressed the pair's similarly in appearance during a Reddit AMA earlier this year, saying, "It has been acknowledged many times that myself and Chad Smith, drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, share a resemblance to each other. A lot of people think that it's me playing for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But that would be an insult to Chad Smith. The truth of the matter is there is no Will Ferrell. Only Chad Smith."

Smith then challenged Ferrell to a drum battle, and the comedian agreed on the condition that his Cancer for College campaign reach more than $300,000. It did, hence the drum battle coming to fruition.

If this is anything like the time Ferrell had a bass-off with Jack Black on Saturday Night Live, it should be well worth watching.
