Three years on from sailing the Westwinds, Canadian-based Celtic punk group the Real McKenzies have announced another LP. Their ninth full-length effort is called Rats in the Burlap, and it arrives March 24 in Canada via Stomp and April 7 in the U.S. through Fat Wreck Chords.
A press release notes that the group are once again delivering their "high-octane, booze-fuelled brand of punk rock," with the 14-song set threading Scottish and Celtic textures into the "melodic badassery." Like a fine glass of Belhaven ale, NOFX's Fat Mike and bassist Joe Raposo, both of whom having performed live with the McKenzies, were drafted by the band to add to the recordings.
Vocalist Paul McKenzie said in a statement that the group have prepped an LP "chocked full of new songs that we just know will appeal to all." This includes a track about the singer's cat stealing his haggis on Robbie Burns Day ("Bootsy the Haggis-Eating Cat"), songs of rebellion ("Who'd a Thought") and tunes about life on the road ("Midnight Train to Moscow," "Up on a Motorbike").
