Toronto psych-rock crew Quest for Fire have just harshed the mellows of their fanbase, ringing in the new year with the announcement that they're breaking up. The news was delivered early this morning (January 2) through the group's Facebook page.
"After 6 amazing years we have officially decided to call it quits. Sorry to all the kind folks out there that were expecting a new record in 2013," they wrote.
The quartet's last full-length was 2010's spacey Lights from Paradise, though they had posted in late 2011 that they were working on a new record.
While there will apparently be no more material coming from Quest for Fire, the band did hint that new tunes are on the way from some newly formed acts. The band wrote, "We promise you, a few new bands are already in the works. good things on the horizon!"
Featuring former members of Cursed and the Deadly Snakes, the Hogtown unit started up in 2007 and issued two LPs and a split 7-inch with Nebula before calling it quits.
"Lots of great tours, good friends (old and new), good jams, heavy parties, and long roads, will be filed away, forever foggy and shining in our collective memories," they recalled in the note.
Quest for Fire will play a farewell show at Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern on February 15. Special guests will be announced sometime soon.
