Q And Not U

No Kill No Beep Beep

BY Stuart GreenPublished Dec 1, 2000

Like the Nation of Ulysses before them, Washington quartet Q And Not U incorporate equal parts de rigeur '60s garage rock, Who-inspired noise pop and conventional indie rock to create a bold, explosive and modern sound. (In some ways they're kind of like a less fashion conscious and less organic version of the (International) Noise Conspiracy.) This debut release, produced by DC scenesters Ian MacKaye and Don Zientara at the legendary Inner Ear Studio, has all the markings of the quality Dischord releases of yesteryear. Think Beefeater and Shudder to Think crossed with Sloan and you begin to get the idea.
