Puro Instinct Recruit Ariel Pink for New Single, Prep Debut Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Dec 7, 2010

When Ariel Pink went on tour this summer, he brought along a jangly dream pop band Puro Instinct (formerly Pearl Harbour) to open. Now, Pink is continuing his support of the up-and-coming group by contributing to their new single, "Stilyagi," which will also appear on their debut LP.

The album is called Headbangers in Ecstasy and it's slated to come out sometime in 2011 via Mexican Summer. In an interview with the French publication Hartzine (translated and republished on Puro Instinct's blog), the band explained that the record was recorded with Kenny Gilmore (of Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti) in Glendale, CA.

For a taste of what's in store, go to the label's website to listen to the reverb-hazed "Stilyagi," which features backing vocals from Pink.

The album's release date is currently unconfirmed. The "Stilyagi" seven-inch (see the cover above) is set to ship in late December/early January. It comes on gold vinyl, backed by a track called "Put Medved to Bedved." Go here to pre-order.

Puro Instinct were previously known as Pearl Harbour. Guitarist Skylar Kaplan was only 13 when she formed the band with her older sister Piper (the younger sibling is just 15 now).
