Edmontonians Purity Ring returned to the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver yesterday evening (October 18) for the second year in a row, capping off their lengthy tour in support of 2015's Another Eternity.

Support came from Los Angeles vocalist and producer, HANA. Her sensual synth-pop invited concertgoers to the venue's open floor, where they bobbed along to her refined production and expressive vocals. The up and coming musician has been out on the road supporting Grimes and opened for Purity Ring last year, and the experiences have helped her develop an open and welcoming stage presence.

The wait was long for Purity Ring to take the stage, but when they finally did (about half an hour behind schedule), the audience rejoiced. Their exquisite lighting design of LED curtains by Kat Rodgers was reminiscent of Andi Watson's work with Radiohead, the entire colour spectrum cascading towards the audience.

Launching into crisp and melodic tracks from Another Eternity and their 2012 debut, Shrines, the duo had fans hanging on their every note. Vocalist Megan James was incredibly precise, her voice cooing on tracks such as "Heartsigh," "Repetition" and "Lofticries." Producer Corin Roddick played his ever-fascinating custom-built synth, which also triggered elements of the impressive lightshow.

Purity Ring soaked up the energy sent their way by the engaged crowd, who chanted along to James' lyrical poetry. The production throughout the show was clean and refined, elevating the mix while it highlighted the intricacies of the duo's beats and synths. "Bodyache" predictably enthralled the crowd, balancing bass and melody to dramatic effect.

The duo was clearly chuffed by night's end, but James told the room that they unfortunately do not play encores. As a last hurrah, the duo launched into an explosive rendition of "Begin Again," the audience singing in time with James as the forest of lights showered the room, a moment of sheer beauty.
