Puddle of Mudd's Wes Scantlin Admits His Infamous Nirvana Cover Sounded Like "Total Shit"

He was apparently "a little tired"

It's been almost three years, but Wes Scantlin of Pudd of Mudd is finally ready to admit that his cover of Nirvana's "About a Girl" was really, really bad.

The revelation came in conversation with Greg Prato of Songfacts, who point-blank asked Scantlin about his thoughts on the infamous SiriusXM performance that saw him screeching and hollering Kurt Cobain's lyrics atop his bandmates' restrained instrumentation.

"I was acclimating and it was a tiring day, and I had already performed five or six songs at one time," Scantlin explained.

"And by the time I got to that one — which I shouldn't even have done because I cannot nail that song — I was a little tired," he continued. "It looked and sounded like total shit. But live to fight another day, dude."

The band had previously responded to the viral negative attention the performance was getting with a very thoughts-and-prayers mentality, writing on social media: "Rise above others who try and take you down… I'm at my BEST NOW… and that's all that matters. I pray for all of you because we care. Jealousy is toxic, and toxic people are a waste of time. We walk away with nothing but a SMILE."

Revisit the performance below, if you're into that kind of thing.
