Prince's 'Purple Rain' Movie Home Up for Sale in Minneapolis

Would U Die 4 the chance to own a piece of movie-related real estate with a particularly mauve aura? Then we suggest heading to Minneapolis and making it rain on the lot holding the house from Prince's 1984 feature film Purple Rain. The two-level home is currently on the market.

The good folks at the Numero Group recently drove by the property at 3420 Snelling Avenue and noticed it was up for sale. They had previously noted in the liner notes to their Purple Snow: Forecasting the Minneapolis Sound compilation, which featured performances from a young Prince, that the house had been used as the home of Prince's character, "The Kid."

There is a caveat to this, though, as the label adds: "Prince is never seen leaving/entering this house (kind of like the exterior shot of Cheers in that way), and the interior shots were just as likely shot in Los Angeles County as they were Hennepin, [MN] (hence the palm trees)."

All the same, the three-bedroom property is going for the cool price of $110,000 USD. It could be a significant fixer-upper, having been built in 1913. A full listing of the home notes that it "needs to be rehabbed," though a new boiler was installed in 2010. There's plenty of room on that lawn to fit a big purple motorcycle, though. Just sayin'.

In related news, Prince's backup band, 3RDEYEGIRL, revealed that a new full-length titled The Hit and Run Album is due later this year. Though details are still pending on the release, it'll feature the recent "HARDROCKLOVER" single.
