It's not purple, it's "Love Symbol #2"

Since Prince died last year, he has been honoured with special days, a museum at Paisley Park, an online museum and an honorary degree — even one of North America's most famous natural landmarks showed its respect to the singer. Now, the Purple One is being honoured once again with his very own, well, purple.

The Pantone Color Institute has announced a brand new hue dubbed "Love Symbol #2," which was inspired by Prince's custom purple Yamaha piano (originally intended to go on tour with the performer before his passing).

"We are honoured to have worked on the development of Love Symbol #2, a distinctive new purple shade created in memory of Prince, 'the purple one,'" Pantone vice-president Laurie Pressman said in a statement. "A musical icon known for his artistic brilliance, Love Symbol #2 is emblematic of Prince's distinctive style. Long associated with the purple family, Love Symbol #2 enables Prince's unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself."

The new colour will reportedly be the official shade of Prince's brand going forward, so you can expect to see the specific shade of purple popping up in the future, as Prince's legacy continues to grow.
