Prince and the Revolution's 'Live' Treated to Expanded Reissue

The 1985 'Purple Rain' Tour stop in Syracuse has been restored, remixed and remastered

In March of 1985, Prince and the Revolution beamed a concert on their Purple Rain Tour to millions of viewers from Syracuse, NY's Carrier Dome, released that same year as concert film Prince and the Revolution: Live. Now, it's been revealed that the memorable set will be treated to an expanded reissue.

The Prince Estate has announced a deluxe reissue of Prince and the Revolution: Live will arrive June 3, marking the first time the concert has been available on CD, vinyl, and Blu-ray formats.

For the new release packages, Prince and the Revolution's March 30, 1985 concert has had its original video source rescanned, restored and colour-corrected, while the performance's original multitrack master audio recordings have been remixed and remastered, with Blu-ray video boasting selectable stereo, 5.1 surround and Dolby Atmos sound options.

The concert's source audio — reportedly held in Prince's Paisley Park vault for over three decades — was remixed by Chris James, the artist's late-career, Grammy-nominated recording engineer.

"Listening back to that Syracuse show, I'm like, 'Wow, we sound like a freight train just coming out of nowhere,'" the Revolution bassist BrownMark shared in a press release. "That was powerful. I've been to a lot of concerts, and I've never seen anything like that."

In addition to 2-CD + Blu-ray and 3xLP editions, a Collector's Edition Box Set version will press the remixed and remastered audio on three coloured vinyl LPs, and collect the CD edition and Blu-ray video alongside a 44-page book with never-before-seen photos of the Purple Rain tour, new liner notes, and more.

You can find the Collector's Edition tracklist below, following a performance of "Let's Go Crazy" from the Syracuse performance. The reissued Prince and the Revolution: Live is now available for pre-order.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Prince's lost 1986 album Camille would finally see release. Last year marked the arrival of Welcome 2 America, the first previously unreleased studio album of Prince material to be released posthumously.
