Prefuse 73 / Savath and Savalas

Everything She Touched Turned Ampexian / La Llama

Releasing almost 30 pieces of work this decade alone in different formats (LPs, EPs, CD-Rs, remixes, comps) under numerous monikers (Delarosa and Asora, Savath and Savalas, Prefuse 73, Piano Overlord), it's hardly a surprise that Guillermo Scott Herren decided to release two albums featuring his two most celebrated guises within the span of one month. With a third LP recorded with Hella's Zach Hill under the name Diamond Watch Wrists expected soon, Everything She Touched and La Llama show Herren as an artist still bursting with vision. After the guest star-studded Preparations, Scott as Prefuse brings it back to a one-man show, splicing 48 minutes of music into 29 kick- and snare-fuelled tracks. Unlike most LPs that follow this concept, the tracks on Everything certainly don't pass by unannounced. As songs blend (almost jarringly) into one another, each cut-and-paste-style track strives to create a uniquely singular experience. La Llama once again bursts with haunting, almost motherly, vocals courtesy of Eva Puyuelo Muns over perhaps the most airy and downbeat Spanish-tinged rhythms ever put to tape. Everything She Touched Turned Ampexian and La Llama are either unyielding and solid pieces of work or just "more of the same," depending of course, on what you look for in a Scott Herren album.

How different is your life today compared to six months ago?
It's awful. Six months ago I would be mastering records thinking, "Now things will ease up." My head is really wrapped around Diamond Watch Wrists because every song I did was different. I feel like Savath and Savalas and Prefuse have a certain realm that they work within. Diamond Watch Wrists, it's more a singer-songwriter thing. It's really pleasing to me right now and working with Zach [Hill] was a really unexpected team-up. It was supposed to be John Stanier [Battles, Helmet] but he's on tour. So Zach did a session and I was blown back by what he did. I'm really amped about the next 20 songs we're working on.

Is the Diamond Watch Wrists album still coming out on April 28?
I don't know what day it is today.

It's the 20th
I don't really know, because I didn't even know the Prefuse album came out last week. This is all news to me. We're trying to get all of this music out of the way so we can practice and get ready to tour; we have a Prefuse/Diamond Watch Wrists tour coming up in July.
