Portishead

"S.O.S." (ABBA cover)

Last year, we learned that celebrated trip-hop vets Portishead had contributed a cover of ABBA's "S.O.S." to director Ben Wheatley's High-Rise. While the film has made it through cinema houses worldwide, the cover has now popped up online.

Fittingly, Portishead's take on the Swedish pop group's classic cut is quite bleak. A wavy wash of synth floats beneath Beth Gibbons haunted, half-whispered adaptation of lines like "Where are those happy days, they seem so hard to find." She adds, "Whatever happened to our love?"

For now, a fan upload of the cut can be streamed below.

Portishead have not issued an LP since 2008's Third, though they had previously reported that they were clearing their schedules to make another album.
