Indie rock icons Pixies have announced they're compiling the material found on their trio of EP releases to make up their first full-length release since 1991's Trompe Le Monde. Titled Indie Cindy, it drops in North America April 29 through their own Pixiesmusic and PIAS, while arriving April 23 in Japan and April 28 in Europe and overseas.
The album news comes just as the band have delivered their EP-3, which features four more songs recorded with longtime studio collaborator Gil Norton (Doolittle, Bossanova, Trompe Le Monde), including the band's comeback track "Bag Boy." Like the previous EPs, the latest in the series is available as a limited-edition 10-inch and digitally. You can order it here.
The album, meanwhile, compiles all 12 tracks from the EPs, all of which were recorded with Norton in October 2012 at the Rockfield Studios in Wales, UK. This was the first time the band had made any new music since 2004.
Founding bassist Kim Deal had entered the studio with the rest of the group but, as previously reported, had left the group shortly thereafter, leaving vocalist/guitarist Black Francis (a.k.a. Frank Black), guitarist Joey Santiago and drummer David Lovering to work without her, and they begin playing out live with a series of touring bassists.
"We started seriously talking about recording new music about four years ago," Lovering said in a statement of the drive to get back in the studio. "New music seemed like something we just had to do, we just couldn't continue to go out and tour without anything new. So the talk evolved into writing and recording, and we're all very happy with the way everything worked out."
Indie Cindy will be available in a variety of formats, including a standard 12-song CD and a deluxe-edition double CD adding a live concert dubbed Live in the USA. For Record Store Day (April 19), Pixies will issue the Indie Cindy/Live in the USA combo as a double LP pressed onto 180-gram vinyl and housed in a gatefold sleeve. The deluxe packages also include a 40-page booklet, while longtime visual collaborator Vaughan Oliver served up the cover art, which you can see up above.
You can pre-order the standard CD versions and double-LP version on the band's website.
