Phantogram have been around for a few years now, but it's only been recently that they've truly risen in prominence, thanks in part to high-profile feature spots with Big Boi and the Flaming Lips. Now, the New York duo are taking the next big step with Voices, their anticipated sophomore album. Ahead of the record's February 18 release through Indica/Republic/Universal, it's available to stream in Canada at Exclaim.ca.
Voices was recorded in Los Angeles with producer John Hill (M.I.A., Santigold). We've heard a number of these 11 tracks before; the four songs from last year's eponymous EP reemerge here, as do the string of teaser tracks from recent weeks.
The album showcases the pair's sparkly synth-pop sound, with plenty of full-bodied rhythms and big hooks. Tunes like "Black Out Days," "Howling at the Moon" and "I Don't Blame You" sport a dark and angular sound, but there are still enough cinematic melodies and hard-hitting electronic rhythms to make this record a fun listen.
The band's upcoming tour schedule includes some Canadian shows, including stops in Laval, QC (February 28), Toronto (March 1) and Montreal (March 2). See the entire schedule here.
And of course, immerse yourself in Voices below.
