There is only one band in the world that can dial it up to 11 — and they're back. A sequel to 1984's This Is Spinal Tap is in the works to celebrate the mockumentary's 40th anniversary, with guest appearances from Paul McCartney, Elton John, Garth Brooks and more [via Deadline].

"We're making a sequel," writer/director Rob Reiner said during a recent appearance on the RHLSTP with Richard Herring podcast. "We're going to start shooting in the end of February and everybody is back."

Michael McKean will reprise his role as Spinal Tap frontperson David St. Hubbins, with Christopher Guest returning as guitarist Nigel Tufnel and Harry Shearer as bassist Derek Smalls — who just released a new deluxe version of Smalls Change (Meditations Upon Ageing). Reiner himself will once again be playing documentarian Marty DiBergi.

"I can tell you hardly a day goes by without someone saying, 'Why don't you do another one?' For so many years, we said, 'Nah.' It wasn't until we came up with the right idea how to do this," Reiner told Deadline in May 2022 about the sequel plans. "You don't want to just do it, to do it. You want to honour the first one and push it a little further with the story."
