The conceit of the latest effort from PARTYNEXTDOOR is that this seven-track EP was recorded and produced within seven days; hence the title.
Not to be cynical, but this doesn't sound much different than previous PND outings. That's not an insult, either; by this point, the singer-songwriter has a formula down pat. We're talking about catchy hooks, evaporated melodies and synth-flavoured R&B, the merits of which aren't really up for debate at this point — you know what you're going to get at this party. Seven Days sees PND at peak powers, too: "Damage" is pitch-perfect OVO/Drake style sonics, "Better Man" adds a guest spot from Rick Ross and the woozy "Best Friends" might best be experienced under the influence.
Then along comes a groove like "Never Played Me," a midtempo jam that sees PND proving why he's not going anywhere anytime soon. Seven Days adds to a growing body of work that reflects an artist in motion. (OVO Sound)
