Neil Young Explains TIFF Cancellation: "I didn't know I was a scheduled event"

As we found out yesterday (September 10), the highly anticipated appearance from Neil Young at this year's Toronto International Film Festival was cancelled. No reason was given at the time, but now Young has explained that he didn't even know about the scheduled performance until it was too late.

In an interview with the Toronto Star, Young explained that he didn't even know about his involvement in the event. "This is the first time I ever heard I was supposed to be there," he explained. "I didn't know I was a scheduled event." Unfortunately, by the time Young knew he was supposed to be in attendance, he already had a previous engagement to worry about.

Director Jonathan Demme will still be in attendance for the screening of Young's documentary Neil Young Trunk Show, and the TIFF organizers have suggested a "spectacular" replacement will appear in Young's place. The replacement has not yet been announced.
