Muxtape Relaunches in New Format

Remember when Muxtape first appeared and made streaming media so personal again? And then the evil suits at the RIAA robbed you of it just as you were starting to get comfortable with its simplicity? Well, fortunately the site has returned. Unfortunately, it's taken a much different format.

In a post on their newly updated site, they explained the change, stating, "It's a long story. The short version is that we couldn't find a way to make a licensing deal work with the major record labels and were shut down. Instead, we're recreating the site as a platform for bands to promote and market themselves. The goal of Muxtape remains facilitating the discovery of new music, and anyone can still create a mix from the music available on the site." The 12 bands who are currently available on the site include Girl Talk, Dan Deacon and Of Montreal, among others, but the sign-up should be open to all bands shortly. In other words, it won't be much different than a site like RCRD LBL.
