Montreal's Alicia Clara Takes a Nostalgic Voyage in "Closing Time at the Gates" Video

Swiss-Canadian songwriter Alicia Clara recently emerged with her dreamy debut single "Closing Time at the Gates." Now, that airy indie pop tune has gotten an accompanying video, and Exclaim! has the premiere.

The song is smooth synth-driven number, with airy pop melodies mingling with soft rock rhythms and twinkling '80s textures.

That nostalgic quality is complemented by the accompanying self-directed/self-edited video, which features retro-style home videos intercut with soft-focus images of Clara playing guitar in the snow and cuddling a cat.

The artist explained the clip with a statement:

The song originated from my confusion as to where I'm supposed to belong physically, so for the video I wanted to depict a sort of travel of the mind through memories, with old home videos and more recent footage. I wanted to play guitar in the snow as a homage to my move to Montreal last year to pursue music. I actually also used real footage of my train ride when I moved here. I went for something really campy in style because I didn't want the matter to be taken too seriously, I wanted this to be fun above all.
