Originally set for release back on Record Store Day, Modest Mouse's new single finally has a solid date for tomorrow (May 26) when it drops on both digital and vinyl. The A-side "Satellite Skin" has been floating around since they played it on Letterman back in March. But its flipside has just now reared its head.
"Guilty Cocker Spaniels" doesn't break away from the glossier pop of their last couple albums, but it also doesn't indulge in Johnny Marr's heavenly jangle that kinda rubbed me awkwardly. It's still expansive, harmonious and nice enough for radio, but with Isaac Brock fuming over Facebook and the idyllic "perfect life" until he gets hoarse and vocally violent the way he did regularly back in the good ol' days. As far as B-sides go, well, they don't get any finer than this.
Both tracks will be featured on the forthcoming B-sides comp No One's First and You're Next (think Everywhere and His Nasty Parlour Tricks), which is set for release this August.
